Insurance dilemma - MBClub UK Forums
We as some of you know my daughter will start to drive in 10 days time. I have the car sorted for her a VW Polo 1.0 litre. My dilemma is Insurance. I currently have full no claims on the policy which my MB is on, this is due for renewal in 9 days. so do I reinsure the MB using my no claims or use my no claims to insure the Polo with my daughter on as a second learner driver and put the MB on a classic policy. Alternatively I could insure the Polo in my daughters name with me on as a second driver, any thoughts. I would recommend starting her off on her own policy to start building her own no claims now. I did from the offset and I had a 1.1 205 which I think cost me approx £750 to insure fully comp (with Pass Plus). I'm glad I started my own as now I have built up many years no claims and I'm still young, 23, so it's nice when it comes to choosing cars these days!
I am in the same situation. My daughter was 17 last Monday and has just started driving lessons. I have bought her a 51 plate Vx Corsa 1.2 Comfort which is sat on the drive. It is currently registered to me and insured by me for peanuts (ok £190 fully comp!). When her driving instructor gives me the nod that she is happy for me to take her out to supplement her lessons I will put her on my insurance as a provisional licence holder. When she passes her test, my intention is to register the car to her and then get her to take out insurance in her own name with me as a named driver. No doubt Dad will have to help out! I got a couple of quotes from the screenscraper sites a month or so ago and it came out at about £800 for a TPF&Tpolicy for her. I also intend to pay for Passplus lessons for her which should hopefully bring her insurance down slightly. Definitely get her on her own policy. Add yourself as a named driver and get her to do passplus, oh and keep the mileage as low as possible, though it's hard!
